That area is going to get very hot. Metal shielding is nice, but metal is a conductor. This concerns me because wood exposed to heat over time will drop in its ignition temperature due to pyrolysis.

next winter I will put a temp gauge up there and see what temps I see up there. I don't think it will be a problem but better to be sure.
