I'm looking to install a quadrafire Santa Fe insert in an existing fireplace and want to know how to finish the 3" ID Magnaflex chimney liner as it passes the existing damper?
How do people disable the damper mechanism (I have a chain on the front of my fireplace that pulls the damper open)?
Do I need to fill the gap around the liner with something?

The instructions are somewhat vague.

Any help would be appreciated.

Rich

You should have a top plate with your liner kit, that will seal the chimney off at the top. There is a wiki article about making a lower block off plate but I cannot find it at the moment. Only one seal is required so the top plate suffices code requirements.

Hi Rich, What jtp10181 said basically.

The flex pipe kit I bought came with everything including
a block off plate and cap for the top of the flue.

As for the fireplace damper, I removed it and the handle on the front
of my fireplace that opened/closed it. Here's a pic.
