Tell them that no matter what else they may do, do NOT burn any pine in that stove!

What?!?!!?

Bigg Redd always jokes that pine causes chimney fires. I was indulging him a bit. :p

My dad has never been selective about what species go in the stove. And his non-selectivity has hit an all-time low in the last 10 years since I've been cutting his firewood. Hemlock, willow, cottonwood, cedar - he just doesn't care.

I am assuming that is a joke. To this point, I have only used hardwoods, but have been convinced by many posts that properly cured pine/softwoods are perfectly fine to burn in inserts. I have started collecting such wood by the side of road to augment my stock.

Softwood is the bulk of our firewood in this region. Hardwood is a luxury item.
