I spoke to Cory (the Pacific Energy Manager for Technical and Customer Services) on Friday and inquired about normal operating temperatures for the Pacific. He stated that it is normal for the Pacific insert to peak a +800F, even with the air control set on Low. He said that the stove actually gets hotter with the air control closed, due to the decreased flow rate of air.
He did state that the hardest thing on the stove is a quick increase/decrease in temperature (eg. going from an air control on High and shutting it to Low). The air control needs to be shut down gradually.
