I just had someone clean my chimney where my pellet insert is installed. The piping from the stove does not go to the top of the chimney. He said that we should replace the existing piping and extend it to over the chimney. He said that he sees glaze on the existing chimney and that could cause fire. Would appreciate opinions on his analysis.

Thanks in Advance,

Gary

Brother and I installed our pellet stove & pipe.
We went with a full liner and topped it with a cap.
(Simpson Duravent pellet vent)
Imo it's the right way to do it so I'd say take his advice
if I were in your shoes.
Also, imo it's easier to clean a 4" round liner
than it is to clean the inside of a flue.
Buy a poly brush setup and clean it yourself,
and save some $$ there. :)

Not only the safety of the Glazing
but there is NO way to Keep fly ash from coming back into your home.
All pellets stove inserts suck air from the Fireplace firebox.
if you do not have the perfect seal then it will suck in ash from your chimney into the home through the room air blower.

And with a Half A$$ reline where is all that fly ash going?
Your service guy has to pull the stove and the Half A$$ liner out every year to clean the fly ash.
and the stove will draft much better in a power outage if you have a full liner.
here is an example of a half A$$ pellet insert install that My installer have to fix all the time.

Thank you all for your advice. What is ballpark dollar figure for redoing the piping?

Thanks in Advance,

Gary

Gary I don't know about inserts, but
I paid approx. $400.00 for the piping
needed to go from the stove, up
the chimney 15 ft then secured to the top of the flue
with concrete anchoring screws & then a ss cap.
They might be able to re-use some of the
piping you already have in place which would
obviously save you some cash since this stuff
ain't cheap.

The place where I bought the stove & pipe
wanted $500.00 for complete installation,
and that figure was just for the labor, not
the simpson duravent. So it would have cost
me a total of $900 for the liner kit+ labor.

Zeta,

Thanks!
