you can access it through the ash pan area. there is a wing nut you need to remove. also remove the right panel to disconnect the wire and make sure you run the wire exactly the same way or the burn pot floor will cut the wire when it auto cleans. When installing the new one the washer goes between the ignitor and the mounting plate
 
How old is the unit? Is this an AE unit or not?

For a non-AE unit, you just put the new one in exactly how the old one was, the wire polarity matters also.

For the AE, it comes with pretty good instructions, and you may need to drill a new hole.
