I bought a Jotul Rockland insert in 2009. I'm seeing brown spots - signs of rust. Is this normal?

Where are they? It often is a sign of water intrusion around the liner top cap. But if this is recent, maybe Sandy blew in some rain sideways into the cap?

In addition to BG's good idea:

Have a dog that may have shook when damp in the house? Have a little kid with a sippy cup that may have gotten shaken? Do you use a steamer on the stove? Someone mop near the stove and get a little sloppy with the water?

Those are just some common ways that rust can get started, especially when you mention spots of it.

All in the front surface of the stove. The brown marks are blemishes on top of the black paint. Inside appears to be okay.
