This is the only time of year that you will hear me tell you I love the catalpa trees. The perfume is smelling up the whole neighborhood and the blossoms and giant leaves are beautiful, but as soon as the blossoms fall off they are a dirty tree pretty much the rest of the year.

I think it was seed pods from the Catalpa that me and my neighborhood buddies used to smack each other with when we were kids. They sure are different. Messy is right.

Yep we called them cigar trees when we were little. The seed pods are around a foot long, look like giant green beens!

Yup very pretty in bloom but a mess the rest of the year.Massive one in front yard across the street & 1 house north, years ago it was apparantly a State record. Not as many flowers this year, they were out a couple weeks back already.

I've had a catalpa that I transplanted about ten years ago. I never knew they had messy seed pods. Mine has never flowered either. Live and learn.

Nice pics.

We planted a catalpa as a centerpiece in the yard, which is currently competing with the buckeyes and deer brush for the best scent. They all smell wonderful, but the catalpa flowers are prettier, I think.
