The ol' open the ash pan trick...Ney or Yeah?

I also have cracks on the door, upper right and left, I think these have more potential to exhaust into the room, but not yet, heres another pict.

A big NO.

That's not to say I didn't do it last year before I learned why I shouldn't . . . i.e. damage to the stove parts and risk of flashback.

Now I find that while keeping the woodbox door ajar isn't as quick as the ash pan door . . . it still does the trick and is a lot safer and better for the stove . . . and it teaches one patience.
