Anybody interested in educating us on tree Identification ? I think it would be neat if somebody quizzed us maybe once a week on tree Id. Take a picture of tree parts or descriptions and quiz us. Maybe give us a week to guess and then give us the answer. It would really benefit not only the newbies but also some of us that are a little experienced. Any takers ? Thank you for your time.

Every 'wood ID please' thread in The Wood Shed is a quiz. I've learned a ton from about 5 of them a week.

I think everyone should have a set of these for wood Id.

Yes, but its a regional thing. So few of us are in the west here on this forum. Its mostly you guys from the Midwest and Nor'east.

Learning to ID is best done not with pictures but with someone who knows they type of wood you have where you live. I've always stated that giving an ID by a picture is very difficult, at least for me. So if possible, find someone where you live who knows trees. Don't try to learn a lot of different trees. Learn a few every year; maybe 3 or 4 per year and just keep building from there.
