I have to fill er up if I am leaving for the day or before bedtime. I like to have as much to work with as I can when I go back to it. I will give it time to burn down a little and put another one in if it will not quite fit if i don't have something a little smaller in the rake to fill the hole. I figure that is the best way to run the stove as long as your careful when filling it completely and not just jamming them in there.
