Everyone pull out the crystal ball and give it a rub or two. What is the current price (not 6 months ago but in the last few days) you are paying and at what do you think the price will be on November 1st?

My current price is $220.00 a ton and I will estimate that prices will be $230-$250 a ton. I have been wrong before (just ask the wife and she will tell you the date and time of every incident).

Maybe we can look back at this and chuckle or say, "Eric told you so.".

No crystal ball but I will find something to rub......I think the better pellets will be a little more expensive, the middle of the road pellets will probably stay the same thanks to the box stores.....I bought mine now so nothing to worry about here.

When you state your current price is $220/ton, I assume that is what you are selling a ton for, not what you paid for a ton. I won't share what we are paying for pellets, but I will state its lower than what we've ever paid. Furthermore, this includes pricing as far back as 1996. I suspect pricing will slowly increase over the spring into the summer and early fall. Much depends on construction and availability of raw materials. Pellet manufactures that are backward integrated continue to outperform those who must purchase their raw materials.

Well back in February of 2011 I bought my middle of the road pellet for 225.00 a ton. This February same pellet I bought for 240.00 a ton. The dealer says he expects another 15.00 jump this summer.

Cool thing is my neighbor offered me to go in on a truckload and that will be 190.00 a ton. They are truck drivers so they are going to pick up at the pellet mill and store at their depot.

Right now, I can get decent pellets nearby for $219-225. My guess is that will remain about the same, although you never can predict the next "big box price war".

Pretty sure the box war will be the only deal we might see come fall. I just came from my local dealers and he is sure the $199 PowerHouse will not exist come fall. He says the price will climb closer to $250 for most and some will be well over $300 easy. Barefoots are already on the edge at $289/ton.

Pretty sure I am in for 2 tons of the PowerHouse. With the 2.5 tons still in the stash that's enough for next season plus. 2 tons of these are cold season pellets, So I only need to worry about the warm weather stuff for now.

2 tons Vts in the barn at $259 - this year's price from a local dealer (mid-Vermont). They're already advertising their pre-buy for the same brand at $280.

I have enough to last at least next season. But the last 3 seasons. Somersets have been $200 normally and go on sale about 2-3 times a year for $175. That includes Magic Sparks (Pro Pellets) from the Sandusky location.

Last year there seemed to be a scare and I stocked up. I can wait the storm out now. When a deal comes along, I will stock up again.......

If I had to guess though, its gonna be somewhere around $240 at the dealers (+/- $20) and $200 for Somersets ($220 at the Farm and Hardware store 6 miles down the road. Always $220, unless you buy 3 or more. Then $210. Been like that for 3 yrs.).

Doesn't really matter to much to me. I already have over 4 ton for next year. I used Just under 2.5 ton this last winter so 4 should be enough.

locally 199.00 year round for clean burns, so I am waiting for Blazers and hope they come in at 180 or less this next season
  16. St_Earl Minister of Fire

i'm guessing steve at sib will be able to keep his prices on the mwp blend (and possibly the softwoods?) about the same.
i know his goal is to do so.
he has a good relationship with the mill. and if his volume continues to grow, he should continue to get preferential pricing from them.

so if you buy mwps and live somewhere he will deliver, do me a favor and buy sib! :)

Well, no crystal ball here either...But be warned, with my luck after spending thousands on a stove this year, pellets will probably go up to 600.00 a ton! Just call me Schleprock!;)
  20. kinsmanstoves Minister of Fire

Cincy, I am selling them at that price. I have sold ProPellet for 5 years now and find they are the best out there so why sell anything less? Not worth the BS of dealing with another mill and a 1/2 a$$ trucking company.

I have learned that selling garbage does not pay. That is why I sell the brands I do. The customer complaints are not worth it. There are other stores out there that will sell anything they can to turn a profit. I have learned to turn away from certain brands and that includes service.

Last ton was I bought $210. Person I buy from expects a $10-15 jump in price, mostly due to fuel costs.

My crystal ball says the prices will stay the same or come down a little this year.
I would guess demand will be lower due to the mild winter we had.
