Info on Sassafras tree with photos of bark and leaves courtesy University of Guelph (major agricultural program in Ontario). Apparently only a few spots in southern Ontario where they are found and it's not my neck of the woods

US info but looks dated from 1970s so not sure how accurate mapping is:

They are indigenous to PA though...
