I just saw an email about Woodstock's new small hybrid stove . I have a small cabin/camp that this new stove might just be what I'm looking for . Has anyone heard any further details about the " Survivor" stove ?

Bob

With a 1.15 cu ft capacity producing 15,332-27,294 BTU/hr it is going to need fairly frequent reloading. It's a clean burner, but BK has stoves that will deliver much lower btus/hr if that is a requirement. If there's no other heat, for a camp I would look at an inexpensive 2 cu ft stove like the True North TN20 if the place is in the 500-900 sq ft range.

Thanks begreen , my camp is pretty small at about 320 sq ft.(actually more of a guest camp) and will be insulated in the near future. Kind of difficult to heat it comfortably with a wood stove I would think due to it's small size but I have 7 acres of hardwoods there . It will be for occasional use over the winter months . You are right , with such a small firebox it will require frequent reloads along with wood cut to whatever size the new stove takes . I will take a look at the TN20 .................

300 sq ft is pretty small. If you can find an older Jotul F602 in good condition (inside and out) that might work.

clearances are a big part of the choice of a heater as well , so it would be a plus if the stove could be small in size along with being able to have close tolerances to combustibles ...... I don't see many used F602's for sale even though there are a fair number of Jotuls in Maine . Also , I am thinking of removing the stove from the camp in the summer months to gain a small amount of space .......

Yes, the stove will take space. I have our Jotul in a corner of the 240 sq ft greenhouse with metal wall shielding to cut the clearances down to 12".

I was just looking at the F602's specs and it might be a solid choice . Thanks begreen . I don't know much about the new Survivor stove and will be curious to find out more such as weight , clearances, chimney height ,cost, etc ...........

I'm curious too. Keep us posted with what you find out.

I certainly will ................

Some googling will find them. I now navigate both sites. Pretty clear blaze king and Woodstock divide.

Sure seems that way... I've never understood it. I have a Blaze King, but the Woodstock stoves were a really close 2nd for me, and might end up getting one someday... from everything I hear, the company is great to work with. I like the Progress Hybrid and Ideal Steel stoves a lot.

My dad's Progress Hybrid is very nice, but I think it's less efficient and the cat gets covered in ash needing cleaned every couple weeks. The glass stays extremely clean even on low burns though, so that's a plus. He definitely cannot turn it down like I can turn down my BK. Just my observations!

Blaze King's Ashford/ Sirocco/ Chinook EPA efficiency is at 80%, Princess is 81%. The Ideal Steel is 82%, the Progress Hybrid is 81%.

BK emissions are 0.8 & 2.42 respectively, Ideal Steel is 1.04, PH is 1.33

Woodstock's ash trays actually work too, which is nice.

But yes, I think the BKs can run lower and slower, and the Woodstocks don't have the bimetallic thermostat. They each have their pluses and minuses.

I didn't see this at all.. who said that?
Every stove out there has pluses and minuses, there's no such thing as a perfect one.

I read that and immediately wanted to validate why I bought a progress over a BK this year. Maybe I want others to value what I value. :)

Wasn't said directly but that tone/mantra is quite evident as of late in many threads. Could simply be the result of one brand having a dominate presence on here.

You are correct....no perfect stove.

What happened? A BK owner posted on a WS thread how much better his thinks his BK is?

It is funny how people, myself included, want everyone else to value the same things they do. I catch myself doing it all the time.

You are right....perhaps that's just human nature.

That's fair, the Progress is a great stove! I'd really like to run one for a while for some first hand experiences with the differences. I'm pretty sure the Progress can run hotter than the BKs, which would definitely be nice to have on some cold mornings. That soapstone also holds the heat longer than cast iron.

To go back to the original poster...

The F602 is a great stove. I had the newer model in my house a few years ago. I loved that little stove. It heated a small 20x20 room with ease. Don’t expect long burn times though.
