So I have my hearth built except for the finish but now I'm second guessing to put in the heat shield.
If I follow Drolett's distance of 20 inch from the double wall pipe to the combustible drywall do I really need the air gap?
I was doing a corner mount. I have 1/2 cement board on the drywall and was going to put 1/4 inch slate veneer panels on that.
Obviously the air gap will be better but is it necessary? I plan to close off the one outlet as it may be a bit close for comfort.
