2004 mt vernon quadrafire

So stove runs great but puts out little heat. Stove was in rough shape when I acquired it. Everything is clean. Just wondering if this needs a damper of some sort. The exhaust to chimney gets hot. I run it on hi not quad hi. I think to much draft and anyway to slow the draft without messing up the burn pattern. Thanks

You definitely don’t want to put a damper in the exhaust. Have you taken the baffles out and cleaned behind them? Does the room blower seem to be blowing hard? Are you getting black soot or grey to brown ash? Any pictures?

Is the convection blower clean and working?

Yes went through stove and cleaned it. White ash but I haven't had any ash in the fire box. That's why I wonder if to much draft. My castile insert has to be cleaned once a week because of ash. The blowers are working fine. I made the back baffle and plan on purchasing a new one spring time,but made it as close to the old one that was broke in half. Here are some pictures. This was very bad when I got it, so I dont know if its missing anything along the exhaust path. I have put gasket material between the gaps of the baffles to see if that would help.

Once it warms up the flame is about 4 inches out of pot and not lazy at all. Just dont know why its blowing warm air and pipe to chimney is hot

Did you put insulation behind the upper baffle?

Yes across the top. Was wondering if that might be the issue.

I’d say that’s definitely the problem. You insulated your heat exchanger

So the heat needs to move between the rear baffle an upper baffle. I thought it run through the exhaust port. I will try that . Thank you. Here are pictures of the b4 and after. Pick it up for 150. I really like this stove.
