Talking about the sort of chase shown here: https://www.hearth.com/econtent/index.php/articles/htchimneyup_twostory

1. Can these chases legally be placed in closets? Is it a good idea?

2. Can a chase legally be vented, e.g. by placing registers high and low on the chase walls? Is it a good idea?

3. Referring to (broken link removed to http://www.duravent.com/uploads/images/DuraPlus_HTC_web.jpg) , what is the purpose of the adjustable wall strap within the chase?

1. Yes and it is perfectly fine many people do this just to hide them
2 Yes all the chase needs to do is keep anything from getting inside the required 2" clearance. I dont see a reason to do it but it is not a bad idea.
3 You need to support the chimney how ever and as often as the instructions call for.

Really most of your questions are covered by the installation instructions for the stove and chimney very clearly.

Yes but more support is need in some cases you need to stop over thinking everything. Just pic a chimney and then check the specs

Charles2, put your stuff in one thread instead of people having to crawl back through 41 threads that address one issue at a time of all your installation questions.

BrotherBart, wouldn't having separate threads make it easier for others who join the forum in the future to search for relevant topics?

Also, I'm not smart enough to think of everything at once. :)
