I made the decision to convert my stove pipe to 8 inch DVL I purchased the
Dura-vent 8'' DVL Oval-to-Round Adapter - 8DVL-ORAD
which is supposed to fit the Vermont castings oval collar . It seems the inner sleeve goes inside no problem but it apparel that the outside won't fit over the collar or do they both go in.. Is there a way to make this fit do you have to work it some how or is it maybe it won't fit at all any one have knowledge of this I would truly appreciate it

They fit very poorly. It's designed for the outer portion to go over the flue collar. It barely covers. It should have a draw band trim piece that goes over this area, it trims it out and holds it all tight. Overall it's overpriced considering its low quality fit in my opinion.

What other options do I have . Can you make any suggestions

It's the only one I've used. I'm not aware of any others. It'll work, just takes some patience.

It would be impossible to make it fit the inside pipe of the piece sticks out an inch more than the outside. When the pipe is inserted it hits a stop inside which is at the one inch mark . With this being said the outer pipe is just touching the cast iron oval on the stove there is no way to make it go in any further it would have to go over the cast iron collar of the stove at least a half inch to put a screw in it it will not goin any further rendering the dura vent Vermont castings oval to round adapter useless. Believe me it will not fit over it no way

I think you can predrill and insert a screw through the hole in the cast and into the inner wall just to hold it in place. Then use the draw band trim to cover between the cast and outer jacket of the DVL.

I paid 75.00 for this dura vent oval to round adapter that they claim should fit my stove I also spent another 250.00 for the other components I needed to complete the change to double wall pipe. I should not have to do any jury rigging when I am putting in new all the way. I am going to call dura vent Monday and ask them who the brain child was who designed this piece because I could have done a better job of it and I am not an engineer . I am really tired of buying the supposedly the best only to find out it's junk. I can't beleive all the trouble the oval on the vermont casting stove has given me.

I am sorry I bought this stove which was not cheap by no means. I am not sure if they make a single wall oval to round and then a single to double wall adapted this may be the way I have to go but I am very interested on what type of BS dura vent is going to give me. Things are just not supposed to be like this . I should have had this done in 30 minutes or less. I really would like to know what others are doing who have the same stove. I measured the outside diameter of the cast iron collar on the stove it's eleven inches the out side diamater of the dura vent oval to round is ten and three quarters. Also like I told you the inside of the dura vent oval to round is one inch longer then the out side.the cast iron collar on the stove is an inch tall when you put the dura vent oval to round adapter into the collar there is a stop inside which is at an inch. So the inside wall of the adapter is in all the way but with the outside being one inch shorter it is just touching the cast iron collar and it having less of an outside diamater it is totally wrong.

Check the pictures I attached first is the cast iron collar on the stove it's one inch. Second is looking in the collar and you can see the stops the inside of the adapter will go in the one inch and stop which is the amount of the insid of the pipe that is longer than the outside.third is the adapter oval side up showing the one inch difference from inside to outside . Four shows it in position and you can see it just sits on top of the cast iron collar of the stove and does not go over it al all can't it is not big enough and it's in as far as it will go last picture is side view where you can see where the hole is for the screw and how far it's off I hope you can see the problem a little more clearly with the pictures but it's not going to fit pictures are running fro left to right one on the left two on the right three second row left four second tow right and five third row left.

The way I mentioned isn't "jury rigging"

Sometimes things are as easy as they appear. Often these odd pieces of pipe need a little adapting in the field, it's very common actually.
You can crimp the inner pipe, snip a small section out so it can slip in past that stop a little bit. I haven't seen you mention the draw band, do you have one?
This sounds like it might be a job for your local Pro Shop.

Webby following up on my post here is where I am at. After calling dura vent and hammering them about the 75 dollar oval to round they sent me that looked like crap they decided to look into to it. I asked them how they were selling this piece the way it is and they told me they sell close to 300 pieces a year. I received a call two days latter and they told me they had found a collar that goes around the piece at the bottom and it covers the cast collar and also where the two meet that is the outer wall of the DVL and the collar of the stove it is as you mentioned a draw collar I slipped it around and tighten the screw in the back and bingo it looks great. They said that after looking around they found that some boxes had the collar and most not. They over nighted it to me free of charge and it appears my problem is over.no snipping just insert the double wall pipe into the stove the inner part will go in and stop at the stop inside the stove collar the other part of the double wall land just on top of the stove collar and it would not look at all right at this point. The collar which is about an inch or more tall goes around the pipe and collar and it looks great you were in the right place with you thoughts but dura vent would have just kept selling them the wrong way had I not hammered them. every one involved learned something the seller the manufacturer and the consumer which is myself. I am no genius but I know when some thing is not right and I knew they could not have designed this piece for the stove the way they shipped it. All swell that ends well thanks for your help . I will post pictures when I do the final install I just tried it out for size when I put it together I will show both the before and after pics

Good, I'm glad it worked out.
I didn't realize you we're missing the band. Why didn't you say something? ;lol

In this post I asked if you have one.

We just purchased a Vermont Castings Defiant and are running into this exact same problem, so your statement about them learning something may have been just a bit premature. They do sell a single wall adaptor, part number 0001855. These too are TOTAL JUNK!!!. They do not fit, not even close. When installed, there are large gaps on both ends of the oval. Large enough to fit my pinky into, and I have large hands. The Dealer has been, absolutely horrible, we're getting with the BBB on them. Vermont Castings, once I finally got to actually speak with someone, has been no help either. They did supply me with the measurements the pipe was supposed to have though. The oval end is supposed to measure 10 3/8" X 5 1/2. When I informed them that it actually measures only 9 3/4 X 5 1/2, his response was to hammer it out and fill any gaps with filler. My certified installer says "NO WAY." He cannot do this, the gaps are way too large, it is not safe. Vermont Castings and the dealer both basically tell me that we're on our own. Could you please post a pic or two of the finished product, with the draw band, and let us know how the finished product works and looks? We've spoken with Duravent and they gave us part numbers for the double wall pipe, but when looking at multiple suppliers websites, not even one shows or mentions a draw band. Duravent is checking, they say.

Mark I went crazy with this project and it's a shame that they sell a product and do not have a clue on how your supposed to hook the stove up. I had bought all dura vent pipe they made a ovel to round adapter and the pipe to fit it all double wall. When you install the oval to round the inner iCal fits in but the outer just sits on top of the stove collar. I called dura vent and told them my problem and that had I designed the oval to round adapter I would have made it fit perfectly. So I got all this pipe installed now . After bashing dura vent for a while and asking them how they can sell something that really does not fit or look properly they did some investagating and told me there was a metal collar that goes around the bottom of the adapter to give it a finished look and it does look a lot better but instill say they could have done a better job. I had the single wall collar that vermont castings sells and it is worthless it wants you to have the pipe going in the wrong direction meaning that when you install you remaining pipe into the adapter it is going in side of it instead of over I had to trash that idea. Mine is now all hooked up screwed together but I have not tried it yet has not been cold enough yet and I finished the project last spring and it was to warm to fire it up. It just seems to me that vermont castings design is nothing but a headache and they will do nothing to correct it. I am still not sure how it's going to burn I hope I do not have any more problems.

Oval collars are a legacy dinosaur and a pain in the butt.
