We are in our third season with our Accentra FS, which has has given flawless service. Early this morning, for the first time, the stove started giving off a strong smell which I can only describe as wet ash.

However, I have been burning bags from the same pallet of Fireside Ultras for a couple of weeks with no issue. Pellets are stored high and dry indoors, and there has been no evidence of dampness. The stove underwent a major cleaning late last week in anticipation of the extreme cold weather that was forecast for us (alright, you guys who live where it is REALLY cold can stop laughing now - but zero and below counts as cold around here). Except for shutting down for cleanings the stove has been running 24/7 for weeks.

Our weather conditions have been a bit odd, in that the past few days were quite cold (down to single digits at night) but we warmed up rapidly overnight so that the air temp was 50 degrees this morning and there was extremely dense fog.

My only conjecture is that there is so much moisture in the air that it is settling into ash collected in the ash pot and causing the odor, much as I have at times experienced with an fireplace full of ash on a rainy day. I have shut her down and will empty and scrape when fully cold.

Any ideas from the many of you who know a lot more than me? Thanks.

what kind of exhaust setup do you have...
Maybe rain in there has caused it with the large amount of fly ash that sticks to the Exhaust pipes.

This smell is with the stove running and hot? Strange indeed...

My exhaust is straight out the back. There is no vertical rise and I cannot see how rain could enter the system. And yes....the smell is with the stove hot and purring away. I will vacuum her out and report back.

Well, have vacuumed the ash bin and scraped the burn pot. The stove is running again, with no odor so far. Lets see what happens.
