This Pleasant Hearth wsl-1800 came available locally on Marketplace. I'm in the market for a wood stove to replace my wood cook stove. Being off grid, we need a better source of heat.

What should I watch for if I go take a closer look at the stove?

Thank you! I appreciate your help!

It looks almost new to me. That firebrick is new. Look to see if there is any damage or rust ect.

I think it may be. The handles are still in the bag with the manual. It was apparently purchased as a pallet deal so I'm kind of expecting some dings. I don't mind little dings, as long as it doesn't impact the safety and function. Fingers crossed. This would be a game changer for us..

Looks to be in good shape. I'd ensure listing label is affixed to back of stove, give her a going over, making sure not damage/cracks. Then I'd give her a new coat of paint, install it for next season and get some good dry wood ready. Good luck with it.

Maybe double check that the door seals well. It may be new but I have heard that this line is not known for top quality.

Check out this thread about an issue others had.

Thank you for the link! I read the thread right away.

We're going to go give it a good look tomorrow. I'll be sure to check the door and seals. I wish we could get a nicer brand but we're in a difficult situation (need to replace our cook stove by winter + recent job loss) so there are definite limitations in place.

Sorry about your job loss. There's a lot of that going around now. Hope things turn around for the better soon. The stove is basic, but adequate. It should get you through next winter and several more. Just be sure it's installed with correct clearances, it's connected to a proper/safe flue setup, and that you have fully seasoned firewood.

Look in the firebox to see if the coil spring for the door handle and the air control knob are inside.
