Hi Everyone,

I just rebuilt a Defiant 1945.

I'm starting my first fire and the air control lever will not adjust. it will move to the open position but then fall back
down to the closed position.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

It's mechanical, so I'd pull it back apart to look at the linkage. It must not have been securely reconnected when it was reassembled.

Found out what it was.

On the inside of the stove is a tension spring. It had been compressed over the years and was wore out. I ordered and installed a new thermostat with a new tension spring and it works great now.
