Alcove question

I have been reading on this site for weeks trying to get my ducks in a row for replacing my superior prefab fireplace that has a 16ft vertical chase over to an alcove wood burner. I have a 1600sqft house with 10ft ceilings chase deminsions are 53x31. current flue is dual wall galvanized 13" outter 8" inner air cooled. I have been looking at getting the WoodPro Wood Stove — 90,000 BTU, EPA-Certified, Model# WS-TS-2000. the stove has 18" side clearance and 12" rear clearance to combustables. The stove is 27x25x30 that means im short in width and depth. if I was to install a heat shield with 1" air space on all walls would that make this stove acceptable? I know there are stoves with lower clearances but I am concerned that if I get one to well insulated it will not heat as much as I anticipate.

My second question is I will have to replace my chase cover are there any good online sources or should I call a local place. I would rather do it myself. thanks for your time and help

The WS-TS-2000 manual shows no clearance reduction exception for shielded walls. This stove is no less insulated than most other EPA steel stoves, but it is wider than several. Also it has a low firebox height which will restrict load capacity. This is important considering it is an E/W loader.

I would look for a less wide stove with better clearances. Concerns about stove insulation are unfounded. You want a stove with side-shielding to keep clearances down, or you will need to have a radiant stove that specifically calls out alcove clearances with wall shielding.

How large an area are you trying to heat? How wide is the alcove?

Can he run that chimney type? The stove should probably run on a 6 inch class A, right?

Actually, I don't think the quad will meet the side-clearance requirements. Look to a Lopi for low clearances.

Hey thanks for the reply i actually called woodpro and talked to the Tech guy and they confirmed that they could not give the ok to wall shielding because they have not tested it. the house is 1600sqft the stove will be in the living room which is open to the kitchen and dining aprox 880sqft and the alcove is 53" wide. I will look into other stoves

Take a look at the Heatilator WS18. It should fit in that 53" space without issue as long as there is at least an 84" ceiling height in the alcove.

Good craigslist find I got the model # off the picture i think it says 1800 and looked up the manual on this stove and found this information my question is what classifies it as reduced
Minimum clearances to combustible material with double-wall chimney connector and top heat shield (Pan #831-1260)

Residential/mobile Hm. Reduced Note 2 & 3
stove pipe rear 8 (203mm) stove pipe side 20(508mm) rear 6"(152mm) side 11"(279mm)

I just ran across an Englander 13-NC with in driving distance for the price what do you guys think of that seems to fit clearance wise

It's a good little heater. Does this used stove have the side shields? That's important to achieve closer side clearances. Also, are you building the hearth? The 13NC has a pretty stiff hearth insulation requirement that should be noted.
