Hello There,
Have a 2,200 square foot split with wood stove down, fireplace up. We decided on a 13NC for the basement so that it would be quick/not overbearing and, ultimately, put an insert upstairs.

Question: I would like to keep as much of the "fireplace" look as possible with the insert (I don't like the wood stove in a fireplace with a ring around it look). As such, I think the Quadrafire 7100 looks sa-weeet, but it's a lotta money and maybe too much stove (1200 square feet upstairs). Any other suggestions?

Thanks for all your help in the recent weeks; I've learned a lot and have become a Hearth.com junkie!

Try looking at the Lennox "Ladera". EPA, Clean face, small foot print build for that size room.

I'll also recommend having a look at the Lennox stuff. They recently bought out Country Flame. A guy I work with bought one and said it blows his old stove away as far as heat output, wood consumption (lack thereof) and the visual aspects also.

He says he'd buy another one in a heartbeat if he needed to.
