American Harvest 6039

Just got a used American Harvest 6039. What can you tell me about them?
From what I can tell it seems to be well made. I have a Lopi that I use and
it's 20yrs old. Wanted a stove with larger BTU capacity, any advice would
be appreciated Thanks Dave

Why was it for sale?

Make certain you do a full tear down and clean out and read the threads on both here and iburncorn.com for the 6039. That should get you up to speed.

As Smokey said, the stove should spend some time in your garage or outdoors so you can take it apart completely and clean every inch you can get to.....compressed air helps a lot.

After that, a leaf blower treatment and then reassemble with new gaskets on everything. Fire it up outdoors too before install.

for twenty years a lopi. Needed a stove with larger heating capacity. Thanks for the advice Dave

Used stoves get a fairly standard reply on here about cleaning because of folks buying one and then visiting here with what are basically ash (or worse) in the works issues. It appears that the primary reason they find their way to the used market is that they were never really maintained and became really plugged with ash. It is interesting to find out what was said versus what was the case.

I have a Harmon XXV and a USSC 6039. The 6039 is a louder stove but seems to put out more heat. We started out with the 6039 near a sleeping area but had to switch locations with the XXV due to noise. I can't complain about it especially considering the price and the fact that it has ran great 24hrs/day during the heating season for about 3 or 4 years now with no failures.
