It's like he's got an axe, which wasn't axey enough, so someone decided to put two more axe heads on each side of the main one just so he made sure that wood was good and cut.

What the heck is it?

I forget the name of it, I know someone who has one. Not that impressive....

Yeah I just bought the fiskars since my maul isn't cutting it (HA HA) for some of this wood then I saw this and my gadget lust was piqued.

I consider that terrible axe swinging form...

I first seen those about 30 yrs ago, called the Chopper 1 if I'm not mistaken.Never used one before, have seen them sell for quite a bit on Ebay for some strange reason.I think they still are being made,no idea if the design is the same or not though.

I use a Fiskars, but have a friend who says he has really liked the Chopper over the years.

Ummm......absolutely! My back would give out swinging like that! Cheers!

I remember my mother bought one of those in the early 80's. Never did work very well. Most of the time I used it, the head would bury to about an inch or so and the little side pusher things would be what stopped an otherwise perfectly good axe head from cutting wood.

Any wood that I split with it, was straight as an arrow grain and would have gone with a regular axe or maul no problem.

TO be fair, I was probably like 11 or so at the time, so there really wasn't much upper body strength to lend alot of force to the swing.

Hi -

My MIL got me one in the '80s. It's fine on straight grained Ash and Oak. I don't find myself grabbing it that often. It's in the garage for the occasional re-split duty now. ; )

I've used one. It definately will not replace my maul or my fiskars. I HATE the feel of wit w/ those little kicker arms. The problems are either it doesn't split the wood or if it does, it shoots the pieces about 10 feet either direction. Make sure the dog is out of the way and you aren't close to the truck!

I wouldn't suggest buying one unless it is for a discussion piece / part of a collection. Definately more novelty than anything.
