Another fire starting technique?

The basic concept is one we have often mentioned here for bottom starting E/W loaders. That is putting a pair of sleepers facing N/S a few inches apart on the grate. Then add some newspaper balls or kindling shavings. Then place a few medium splits E/W with an air gap between them and ignite. This is the way I usually started the Castine. Once the fire was going well I would add a few more large splits on top.
The wood they are using is split small. You'd have been shocked at my startup this morning with a pair of 10" splits on the bottom and filler wood on the sides. Took right off. Dry wood rules.

FastestFire TM!?!? Seriously, who's out there trying to trademark how to lay firewood in a stove??! Not saying it doesn't work nicely, but TM!?!?
Doesn't show what happens when that little stuff on the bottom is burned and the rest comes tumbling down.

Horrified at what? Other than everything he put in would be considered kindling in my stove that is the way I do it if going EW or(and most often) just pile it full NS with a gap front to back in front of the dog house, exchange the bark for a Super Cedar, light it and let er' eat.
24/7 with coals I do the same only using the pile of coals raked forward to get it going. Am I missing something beyond a stove loaded with kindling?

I still use a firestarter brick about 2"x2"x3/4", some kindling and some wood on top. When I burned all year, I would use about $2.00 worth of squares. My fire lit and my stove got hot...almost like magic.

Exactly. I guess this is the Finnish tunnel of love. That does have a nice ring to it.

That's what I was thinking...that's just an elevated TOL. You could even build the tunnel higher up to more closely approximate a top-down start. Nice placement of the wood, "cut side up/down" to force the thin edges to catch more quickly. Cool, that stove has a little lock in the top of the door for leaving it slightly ajar when starting. My Dutchwest, you can hook the latch where it's not gonna come open but there's still a 1/8" gap.Really, I had the Tunnel of Love TM trademarked years ago.
