Antique gas parlour stove-is this right??

Check out the venting on this...did it really vent like that?? Or have they stuck the cap on sans piping??

I know there were unvented space heaters back in the day, but I thought the parlour style stoves were all vented...

Too bad it's missing the mica windows.
 
I wouldn't either...but I was wondering if it was actually meant to be. It looks like it all fits together so well, but it seems all wrong at the same time.
