Hello all, first time poster, I hope I'm doing this right. I'm looking at the Napoleon 1402 insert and the Jotul 550. One concern I have is the field of view. I think the Jotul 550 is bigger than the Napoleon 1402. I'm working on a budget so I'm probably leaning toward the Napoleon. Does anyone have any experience with them? Another topic is the liner, I have the 8x13 terra cotta on an outside wall. The chimney is about 33'. Does it have to be an insulated liner? What type of stainless; 304,316,316ti ? woodlee Ive just bought the napoleon back in feb. and I like what I got. It heats 1500sq just fine the ups stairs bedrooms stay nice and warm.Ive in stalled the liner my self but I didnt have 33' feet I only had 25'
I bought my stove online at www.DynamiteBuys.com Got the insert and the dura vent liner kit for 1700.00 deliverd to my front door.

I have heated with a 1401 (the 1402's older brother) for about 10 years. I'll be heating with this for anther 10 or more. Very happy with it.
Thanks for the input. I still haven't decided. I may be able to get a Hearthstone Clydesdale floor model for about $2200, do you think that's a decent price? This unit has a very nice viewing window. So far my choices are Napoleon 1402 for about $1500 with small window. Then the Clydesdale for about $2200 with nice window. Then the jotul 550 looks nice and nice window for about $2600. What do you think? Thanks.
One thing that you may consider is that with the flush designs such as the Jotul 550, you don't have a hot horizontal surface at the top to attach a stove thermometer. Also many people like to have a surface to set a container of water to add moisture to the air.
Jotul's 550 sure is a nice looking stove. Much prettier than the Napoleon 1402.
