any tips Lyemance damper removal?

So I getting ready to install my 6" flex liner and new PE Pacific insert.
Any tips on how to remove the old chimney damper that sits on top of my chimney? It is the kind with a chain that goes down into the fireplace and looks to be caulked on top of the 12X8 clay liner that sticks out the top of the chimney?
