Anybody still like their VC 2550?

I rebuilt my Vermont 2550 last year and it was a tough job, a lot of the internal parts were still good so it saved me a little money but Even after all these years I still love this stove. Also get lots of compliments when folks visit me in the winter. Just ordered first cat replacement and a digital combustion temp probe from Condar, can't wait.

The cat VCs are better than their neverburn series as far as longevity goes. Unfortunately VC does not have a great track record for longevity. They are exceptionally good looking but you can't heat on good looks alone. VC was a legendary company that made excellent stoves back in the beginning. But they chose an expensive and weak way to clean up their stoves that doesn't seem to stand up to heavy 24/7 use. Companies like Woodstock and Blaze King have a much better history for reliability.

begreen....thanks for your reply. I think that if I have any sizable troubles in the future I'll look for something that's not as maintenance prone as this stove has been, it was an ordeal rebuilding this baby but working good for now. Are the Woodstocks less maintenance? They do look nice.

The Woodstock Fireview, Keystone and Palladian are time proven and reliable. The newer stoves have not been on the market long enough to tell yet, but Woodstock is a good company and stands behind their product.

I do agree on the looks. My 2044 Encore gets compliments from all who have seen it - looks very much the same as your 2550. Congrats on the successful rebuild.
