anyone have an old ashley box wood stove?

Is your thermostat working & moving freely?
 
Or possibly the seal needs changing? There is a seal in the firebox door and also the ash door.
 
If it is similar to the one I use in my basement, the downdraft intake air comes in at the very bottom of the fire box on the left side. Sometimes ash will get pushed into the intake opening, blocking the flow of air. If that isn't it, I'd inspect the stove pipe and chimney for blockages.
