They're great if you don't mind taking an hour to split a few logs. Its slow, I have one for sale cheap.

Most guys don't even split a 6 in. log.
It looks like more work than with a x27.

Yeah, if it only splits up to a 6.5 inch log,,,,,why bother? Use an axe.
 
I agree sounds like more work than a good fiskars axe.
 
Might be good to use on your porch next to your wood pile to make last minute splits especially during bad weather or if you are incompacitated in any way.

bottle jacks are slow as molasses
fine if you are jacking up a car or building, at least the weight of the above helps push the piston back in.
Having to pump it both ways has to be painfully slow.
