Anyone still burning?

First of May and I had to bring in a wheelbarrow load of wood for the night....we had a huge
3 day spring snowstorm this week. 65" of snow to the north with drifts to 9', only
a foot or so here thank goodness.. 20 above this morning and forecast is for the same tonight.
Stay tuned for flooding next week when it rains..

Still haven't got the storage online but have been using the slab radiant as storage, not the
greatest but works ok..

I thought I had wasted most of a season by not getting the boiler online till Feb but
not so. I had a relay go bad on the econoburn and called Dale and he had a replacement
here right away.. Snow snow go away.....MM

I'm still burning in southerm Minnesota. It was 37* this morning, kinda hate to give up the warm floors but seems like a waste of wood.

I just went through one of the coldest winters in Northern Michigan and my EKO40 performed excellent.

It performed so well that I am now the dealer (and system engineer) in Northern Michigan for gasification boilers ((broken link removed)).

I have been burning a fire approx. every 2 days with small, downed wood that I have been gathering while cleaning up the woods around my house.

The system is working awesome and I am so happy that I am doing good for the environment by not polluting like all of the OWB's that are in my area (99% of the wood boilers up hear are OWB's) and these things are horrible polluters when the weather is not real cold (not to say that they aren't polluters even in the winter time when things are very cold).

I heat dhw all summer with my EKO40 and I don't have storage. My old LPG hot water heater was 98.4 % of my LPG bill so I can burn wood to heat my dhw. Dollar wise I can heat my home and dhw with wood for what it used to cost me just for LPG for dhw. I don't need a full fire every day when it's hot out so I only use a half load or less and manipulate the pumps to heat the water. Having the boiler ready is a big plus when the undesired cold blast comes in. Storage is still in the plans but is not a reality for me right now. Once a week fires would be nice in the summer.

Using mine now for dhw only and depending on amount of water used firing up every other day for a couple of hrs. Wood drys out great between firings (white pine) but have a little condensation in the fire box, is that a concern with corrosion? I have read on here a lot of folks fire up once a day with storage so there must be some condensation also between firings.

Some only fire up every 7-10 days depending on storage size and needs. I would imagine that they have very large storage capacity. Condensation is one thing I was warned about causing problems so I think keeping the boiler in the loop is probably the best way to avoid condensation for intermittent firings as allowing the boiler to cool between firings will allow condensation. During the winter some configure their circuits to cut the boiler out of the loop to prevent the boiler from robbing storage and as long as the boiler stays warmer than the ambient air temps there should be no condensation. It's the long intervals in summer and the summer shut down that present the greatest opportunity for condensation.

Still burning here in MA. House sometimes calls for heat first thing in the morning. I also use my Tarm with storage for DWH year round. I probably fire it every 4 to 5 days.

I'm burning once a week and then living off the storage. I always used to shut down April 1st before when I was using the OWB as I live in a small village and didn't want to have the smoke issue so I shut down and lived off Gas for the shoulder season. Now, no one really knows that I'm burning and with the 2000 gallons, I burn really hard for a day and then live off the storage. These gasifiers are amazing, especially with the storage.

I have been piddling with some control variations on the Econoburn, so I have had fire a few nights lately... but mostly just dumping the heat into the still uninsulated tanks without really using any of it.

I got a NICE load of wood yesterday. The Log truck was stacked so tight the sides looked like a log cabin. All Hickory, Beech, White Oak, Red Oak, and locust. I started cutting tonight a little bit, I can't wait to get it all split and stacked. It's gonna be beautiful.

That load must be good and straight stuff. Makes it nice cutting and handling the logs. The load I got was like that, clean too.




I'm firing every couple of days. Still a little chilly in the mornings, and like heaterman, grass is just turning and you can find snow still hiding in a few places.. I suspect I won't be able to push much more than 3 days out of my storage for DHW use. Time will tell. I am finding i have to use a little more newspaper to start the fire,and takes a few minutes longer to get roaring good compared to winter.

I have already mowed... twice... and need to mow again already. This time of year, it's about every 3 days to keep up with it. I almost never keep up.

I am still burning at night and occasionally in the morning... been low 40s at night. small hot fire to get the house up to 75 or so, by morning usually around 70 still and once the sun is out it stays there for most of the day.
