I have an older Vermont Castings Vigilant stove. I need a part for my coal insert, but the new company that bought VC doesn't sell parts for older stoves. Does anyone know of a company that manufactures parts for the older stoves?

I called Woodsman's Plus and he is still looking for a part that he can make a patttern from. He said that he has been looking for a part for three years with no success. Thank you for taking the time to try to help me.

Did you try Black Swan Stove (CT)
or
Discountstoves.com
(broken link removed to http://www.discountstove.com/vcparts.html)

One of them may just have a part or two lying around which could be used.....

Another trick is to try some of the older VC dealers in the coal region. Since these are the companies that sold the most coal kits, they are most likely to have something sitting in the back room.

Examples:
Stoves and Stuff, Tamaqua, PA.
The Stove Ship, Phoneixville, PA
BOWMAN'S STOVE & PATIO, Ephrata, PA

I know those three are from way back.

old VC parts are hard to get, take forever to reach you, and cost an arm and a leg.. if you want vc coal, i would suggest buying the new vigilant coal stove for around $1700 and save youself all of this hassle, as well as an assurance that the parts will be availiable for the next 10-15 yrs.

looking thru our vc parts book i can tell you that the following parts are no longer availiable:

magazine top, back and front
magazine clip
shaker rod
shaker linkage
back, left and right grates (although, curiously the bottom grate and arm are still out there)
magazine door
