It's going in a triple wall 8". I am pretty sure the 8" will not draft enough even though the local dealer says he has installed some this way, thus looking at a liner.
Is this an insert going into a zero clearance unit?

Yes, In a zero clearance.....
What fireplace is it? And if your dealer puts inserts into zc units without a liner run away do not let him do any work in your house because he either has no idea what he is doing or he has no professional ethics at all

Shop said they have installed a few using a 6" (stove) to 8" (triple wall chimney} adapter in the past. Just setting up for draft issues IMHO. Lopi insert is listed as one of the acceptable units for the ZC. Can't remember the mfg right now.....

You mean the zc unit allows for it or lopi allows it? You need noth to ok it. And you cannot use the chimney for most zc fireplaces for a wood stove. They are not rated for highenough temps.
