Ill bet theres some ash clogging up your heat exchanger some place.
 
Very well may be. I found acorns when I was cleaning out the back panels. I thought I got them all out. Not sure history of the stove...must have been outside at some point
 
I have seen more critters homes built in stove pipe, but never nuts in the stove. Lol
