Back in the 90's we had an Ashley stove, can't remember if it was a wood or coal burning stove. We burned wood in it and heated a large 2 story home with the stove. We have the chance to buy another Ashley stove CAC model, coal burning, in great shape with fans. It's the cabinet style not a cast iron.

We would like to burn wood in it instead of coal. We have no coal suppliers here but we do have plenty of firewood. The owner of the stove tells us it has never burned anything in it but wood and forget about the stories of it not heating good and burning wood faster than you can keep in it.

Any more experiences with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

It will burn wood, but may not be very efficient. The air supply to a coal fire is different than for wood. Given that there are new quality EPA burners under $1000, that is what I would be looking at.

Thank you for your reply and suggestions. We found an Ashley c60d in excellent condition with blowers (wood burning)and will get it tomorrow. This is the stove we wanted again and prefer over the newer ones.
