Atmos boiler installation

Finally got it installed! This is the DC32GS with custom made 720 gallon tank & 500 liter Amtrol. This is a great running boiler & will burn whatever you throw in it. The only issues I've had are that I incorrectly set the Samson control & this needs to be accuratly & I'm getting some white smoke out of the chimney at times. The flue gas runs from 350 to 450 in the center of the pipe with a very accurate thermometer. This is a powerfull boiler & heats the uninsulated tank in a cold basementalong with the house very well. I do need to insulate the tank as there is more heat loss than I expected. I should have put in a anti gravity feed valve like my gas boiler has. The system has a strong thermosiphen & that is with the main feed ball valve half closed & one rad valve half closed. With a 1" solenoid valve on this pipe there would be no need for a circulating pump. This boiler is quiet, almost dissapointingly so, I expected more of a rumbling noise. The induced draft fan is all thats heard. The tank charges perfectly, the Lado works flawlessly. I need to do a bunch of insulating & get the Taco anti gravity valve in. This is light years ahead of my old Energy Mate, Randy, I've got 5 more pictures, not sure how to load them though as I'll go over the 700kb.

Glad to see your system is working good. It looks like you have some galvanized fittings in your pictures. You should never use galvanized in a heating system. It will destroy your pumps.

Hi NNYorker; The tank was made by IPS to my specs. It's 4 1/2' dia & 77" tall. IPS is in Wisconsin. There is also a 2 turn 3' dia. stainless domestic loop inside of it that I haven't hooked up yet, Randy

Good to see you up & running. This boiler was on my short list when researching this year.
Doesn't rumble enough for you!? The WG also is very quiet (compared to my old oil boiler) but does have that cool "rumble" when you open the door.

Hi Bob; The WG was my first choice, couldn't swing the money though. As for noise, I got all set to hear the "rocket" & this boiler is very quiet. As long as it keeps crankin out the heat I'm happy though, Randy

That 700kb limit is a "Per Post" limit - not a per user one... Just start another post (I usually just reply to the earlier one) and you'll get another 700K worth of space - repeat as needed...

The codes are administered by different jurisdictions, CE is done by the EU, and UL is done in the US. Arguably, CE is actually tougher than UL, but at the very least they are essentially equivalent in terms of showing that the boiler is physically safe - legality is a separate question... Just what different jurisdictions require depends on the state, and the discretion of the local code enforcers. Some states require the UL label, some don't, if your state doesn't, it is up to the local code person whether he will accept the CE label in place of the UL label or not... Do a search, and you will find lots of discussion about the issue of dealing w/ code people and the certifications on Euroboilers.

Another option, is to go with what I call a "European open" system, rather than a US style closed system. In essence it consists of an extra vent pipe running up to a storage tank mounted at least three feet above the highest radiation in the system, and an open vent - technically this is an "open" system that gets you out from under many of the US code requirements for a "pressurized" system, but most ways it acts just like a pressurized system, except that the "pressure" comes from the atmosphere and the laws of physics, rather than because the system is closed and pressurized with air...
