Hi- I've read a few posts on this topic here but this has a few twists that I hope someone can help with.

My Selkirk stove collar adapter fits loosely onto my quadrafire 6" collar. The inside pipe is 1/4 inch smaller than the collar and the outside pipe is larger so there is a bit of play. I was told by the vendor this was okay because the draft should keep all smoke in the pipe, but what if I get a downdraft? I would like to seal it up. Seems like using stove cement inside the collar would take care of that. But to complicate matters for this rookie the holes in the collar do not line up. I would expect to let the adapter sit all the way down on top of the stove. But using the screw holes provided means it has to be lifted. Seems like the more solid semi-permanent connection would mean setting it right down. Less movement to break up the stove cement.

Do I drill new holes so it can sit all the way down or lift it?

Is stove cement the way to seal this?

Thanks
Andrew

use flat gasket if the gap is that big furnace cement will crack and fall out i would keep it up a little to allow air into that outer layer

Thank you. I don't know how I missed it but the adapter does allow for a 1/4 inch gap for air flow to the outer layer. It sits all the way down inside the collar and up off the stove on the outside. The only adjustment I need is to drill new holes to match the ones in the stove collar. Thanks for the input and getting me closer to ignition time!
