Question:

Dear Craig, I have found two pretty good deals on chimney pipe ( used metalbestos and duravent both) I am curious about do I need to buy an attic insulation piece or could I just run the triple wall through the attic if I followed the two inch rule to combustibles and box around the pipe with a two by four frame? Thank You Sieve

Answer:

I've done them both ways, but I have heard of house fires resulting when insulation was blown in the attic years after. Best bet is to purchase the correct attic insulation shield and use it.
