Best place to buy a wood stove in Maine/type question about a crack in old stove

I got the flat black...they didn't have any colors set up to temp us. I love the black cast iron look. I'll send picks when it's installed. I brought it in the house yesterday. My wife wants to call rockys and see how much they will charge to set it up...I'm of the opinion that I can do it and that had been the plan. But we will see.

I say I would prefer the blue black . . . and still would . . . but as I also said, the cast iron black look is fine as well . . . and it does a good job.

Depending on the install . . . it could be relatively simple or a challenge. Another possible option to hiring the shop do it is to check around with CSIA-certified chimney sweeps.

The Oslo is a great stove but is not in your case the side-loading door on the wrong side? Or are you planning to turn the stove by 90 degrees compared with your old stove?

Here is a picture. I think I like the cast iron over the blue black...if something happens to the enamel it's impossible to fix. This stove needs to last a long time. Pre first burn I'm very happy with my decision although their is a piece of me that thinks the castine would have worked. But better safe then sorry. Grisu the door is on the correct side for the hearth. I'm almost ready for the cold weather! Firefighterjack I'm going to be in your neck of the woods next weekend for the fair.

Me too . . . I'll be at the Commonground Fair on Saturday. Went for the first time last year (believe it or not) and while I wasn't sure if it was something I would like I actually enjoyed the alternative energy exhibits and animals. Met a lot of folks that I knew as well. In fact for the past six or seven years I've opened Camp Jakeawana -- basically free camping on my side lawn for some friends who come down, camp, eat, have camp fires, watch a movie on the outdoor screen which I've hung on the woodshed, grab a pizza at the Unity House of Pizza, drink a few beverages, eat some more and of course go to the fair. I've told a couple guys here about the fair and invited them to hang at my place if they ever make it up this way.

Nothing left to do for installation...rockys came out and did it yesterday. The picture is after they were done. If I had done it I would have used the old stove pipe which had a 90 degree bend in it. These guys put in a better stove pipe as far as bends go. My wife gets the piece of mind knowing it was done right and I think the stove will draw better then if I had done it with the old pipe. So I'm happy with how it turned out.

Wait I still need too do the brake in fires. Other then that it's ready to go.

That was a quick install . . . especially for this time of year. Looks good as well.

Definitely do the break in fires . . . this is important to help cure the cement and paint . . . don't be surprised if there is some acrid smells in the house. This will eventually go away . . . until the next time you reach a higher temp.

Since I brought the stove home, unpacked it, and got it in place myself they fit us in right away. If they had had to transport and move it ...it would have been a longer wait.

Someone else? -- told me once that he had pictured me as a buff 6'8 stud muffin of a firefighter . . . and he then met a short, fat, balding guy with glasses at a Woodstock get-together . . . I think they were disappointed.
