Big heat pellets?

Just picked up 5 bags of big heat pellets at our local weis store anybody use these before?
They are very light in color and kinda small in size but at 4.50 a bag why not give them a shot.

I'm wondering the same thing. How have yours been? My local TSC has the soft wood ones for $5.29/bag which is $265 a ton. Cheaper than the Okanagan Platinums I'm burning now. My stove likes soft wood pellets over hard wood pellets or blends. I'm tempted to buy em. Which ones did you pick up?

Yes I burned 5 bags so far going back to stock up! The ones I got were real light in color I think they ere softies.my stove loves them! Not much ash and the heat is pretty good,not a bad buy at 4.50 a bag

I plan on picking up as many as I can get from them they will only sell by the bag I got a ton of heatr's in the shed and a bunch of presto logs so I'm good for a while.my stove really likes the presto logs also

What did you pay for your Okanagan's? I have only been able to find them around $400/ton in MA unless I am looking in the wrong places

I paid $330 a ton picked up from a dealer in Colchester CT. Probably too far of a ride for you unless you can get multiple tons in one shot.

yeah that is about an 1 1/2 from me... how are they burning for you?

I only can compare to a bag of North Americans that I burned that were a blend. They burn much hotter with two thirds less ash. I'm happy with them overall, wish there was less saw dust in the bottom of the bags.

What's great about the TSC near me and others I have visited is the price per bag is the same regardless of brand. If anyone visits the one in Milford, NH, I was driving by on 101A and did not enter the strip mall,parking lot but from a distance it looked like they had a significant tonnage of pellets.

Regarding the Okanagans, $400 a ton is obscene, no other way to put it.

I agree that $400 is insane. At the time I got my pellets, three weeks ago, that's all I could get. Big box stores had nothing. As far as these big heats, they are cheaper that the rest of pellets at TSC by me, different sku than the rest, which all have the same one.

I think it will Ken. Looking forward to running then.

picked up 5 bags of these today.. 5.29 a bag.. will try them as soon as I finish the 10 bags of Heat'rs I got the other day.. still sitting on nearly a ton of NEWPS from last Spring and nearly 2 tons of Timber Heats

edit 12/5/14 bought another 5 bags today at TSC 5.29 a bag the bag says wood blend, 8000 btu, the staff at the store told me they are softwood and people have come back and said they burn pretty hot .. will try a bag tomorrow and post what I see with them

I grabbed a ton tonight. They are a little lighter than my platinums and significantly shorter. Some of the Okanagans are almost an inch long. Longest Big Heat was a half inch. Similar amount of dust in the bag. I only loaded my stove, it's 73 in here and 45 outside. May not fire the stove up til tomorrow night. Will report back then.

yikes... I tried 10 bags of green supremes and felt the same way .. first time I had to scrape cabon off of the burnpot as well as out of the end of the auger chute above the pot, switched to some Heatr's I bought at HD and they were far better, still some in the hopper, the Big Heats are next for a trial run if the temp drops tonight and I clear the Heat'rs out of the hopper. The BH's are lighter in color than the Heat'rs and much lighter than the GS or the NEWPs I have.. we will see.. 10 bags and even if they are not great they are worth a try

I too have the Lopi AGP insert recently installed. I noticed since burning the Heat'rs that I recently purchased that it creates black soot on the top of the insert. It eventually burns away, but just wondered why. Do you see the same in your insert? Is this normal?

I see that when I fail to run the stove for an hour or so on a higher heat setting.. it seems to happen with most of the pellets I use... I'm guessing from your location you got your insert at the same place I did.. I need to stop in and get some more touch up paint and some guidance on a complete pull out and tear down for a thourough cleaning


btw if your install included the olde timey Travis Tstat, I highly recommend the inexpensive programmable in my sig, got a new one on ebay for under 20 bux and it certainly saves me pellets

ok I thought it was just mine. Also already on the 2nd tstat and the same problem. No matter what mode I am in it either shuts the stove off or takes it into a low burn in mode 3 before reaching the targeted temperature. I now just run it in manual and turn it to low when I leave the house. A waste of $200.00.
