It's consistent with bitternut hickory (Carya cordiformis) - leaves, bark and bud.
The sulfur-yellow bud from the lone bud in first pic is key identifying characteristic. No other hickory with a yellow bud.

Bitternut hickory seems right. Definitely a hickory.
