I’m very excited to get started with my first fireplace. I’ve been in contact with many fireplace and chimney companies and I was suggested with a fireplace insert to boost efficiency.
After consulting, I received an estimate to install a blaze king pi29 with a mandatory shroud. The insert fits the firebox dimensions. However, I’m concerned with the mandatory shroud.
According to manufacturer’s measurements, the shroud would overlap some of the stone surround. With the shroud, the measurement is 47”W x 33”H
The shroud would not sit flush with the stones. Would this be an issue in terms of functionality? Or is it merely aesthetics? If aesthetics, is it possible to remove shroud later on and then redo the stone surround with bricks or something flat for the shroud to sit flush?
Furthermore, what are options to remedy if it affects function of the insert? Should I grind stones flat? Or since the mortar is failing, remove the stones?
I will definitely speak with the fireplace specialist to see how they’ll handle it. But I would like opinions from my fellow fireplace enthusiasts. Any other advice would be appreciated.
