Would you suggest a block off plate for an insert in an interior chimney?

Really? I thought not a big issue.

*thinks*

Why would you not install one? Rick

Stax, me thinx the answer is yes.

Do I have to disconnect the PE?

Here's what I've found: block off on the top of the chimney with 2 ft of insulation made a huge difference in stove temps. I've since also insulated around the area where my damper used to be, and I'm not so sure if that made much of difference because I've only burned that way since I installed my new insert.

Anyway, definitely block off the top and insulate the top 2 ft. It can't hurt to insulate and block off the bottom of the chimney to keep the warm room air separate from the chimney.

Do a search on block off plates. It's been discussed at length. But yes, you do need one at the bottom and of course at the top.

Yeah I heated the first couple of months without the top being properly blocked off- my installer was a hack- I finally installed one myself last fall and the temps shot up.

When the install was done, it took them forever to cut out the damper (heavy old steelish stuff). There wasn't alot of room when the liner came down as far as air space around the liner. They had to ovalize it to get it through (Dix paid ( >:-( ) attention !).

The top is blocked off.

Unfortunatley, technology has not advanced as far as getting pics out of my head. But I see it clearly.

I wonder if that would help get the heat downstairs?
