Hey all I have a quick question. We are in the middle of re-modleing our living room, I tore out the old brick pad that our stove sat on and have a new one all layed out but what do you use to adhere them? I have had people tell me anything thing from tile thin set to straight cement. Just want to make sure I do it once and do it right so I figured someone on here would know the corrrect adhesive. Thanks alot for any help.

What sort of a stove is it? What's the required r-value of the surface on which the stove is set? A single layer of brick set directly on a combustible floor gives you next to nothing in terms of insulationg properties. That being said, the rigorously correct way to lay a masonry or tile layer atop wood subfloor is to thinset and screw a layer of durock or equivalent, and then thinset or mortar the top layer to that. If it's brick you're putting down, then you may as well set it in mortar, since (presumably) you're going to be mortaring the joints between anyway. The most important point, however, is the stove manufacturer's requirement for the floor beneath. Safety first! I know...more questions than answers, sorry. Rick
Thanks fore the reply, I forgot to mention I did check and put down 1/2" durock and it is brick that will be going down. Your right I think it will be easier just to use mortor because I need it for the joints as well. Appreciate the insight, off to Home depot.
