Thanks for all the help and guidance. I learned a lot from this site. Overall things went well and now I am just waiting for some cold to try it out. After seeing the 2400 sitting in the firebox, I probably could have fit the larger 3100 but did not want to have to shoe-horn it in there. Also my 2400 exhaust collar lined up better under the damper than the 3100 AND the BTU ratings were not much lower on the 2400. I just hope it can warm up my 2,200 sq ft 50's ranch nicely. The unit is in the center of the house so I am quite hopeful. It turned out well and looks nice in the living room.

I wouldn't wait too long for cold - you should probably be doing some break in fires soon. Open the windows if you need to, get the paint cured, and draw the moisture out of those firebricks with some small fires before you really need it to start pumping out some heat.

That's what I was thinking when she brought it home. But it sorta grows on you. At least the elderly neighbors across the street can see what time it is without their glasses.

I plan on a couple small burns to get the paint cured before too long. Have to wait at least until I turn the a/c off though. Shouldn't be long before the nights start getting cooler. Hope it doesn't smoke or smell as bad as the paint from the headers I put on my V-8 CJ7. Couldn't see across the garage.

Nice looking insert and install. Thats the one I wanted, but would not fit in my fireplace. Looks like the tile in front of the insert might need to be extended? Not sure what the exact distance is, but just a heads up before inspection. KD

Actually I just DID extend the tile out. I tore out the old stuff and added 12" to the front and 6" to each side so that I would meet requirements. That's why the carpet is rough cut. It will be replaced next.

nicely done. I did the same with my tile but didnt replace the carpet just used some nice low profile oak trim butted to the tile and nailed to the floor.

My 2400 is 2.3 cu ft. The 3100 is 2.9, which is what I wanted but was concerned it would not fit. Now I know it would have. I did not realize the face trim pushed the unit forward out of the box nearly 1". Amateur ignorance.
