Burn Time?

what's the deal with manufactures suggested burn time on inserts. Not sure if they have them on free standing stoves.

most say between 6-8 hours.
how do you burn 24/7?

When they give you a burn time, thats from when you first spark the fire till there is nothing left. Depending on the stove, you will have a few hours of flames, then a few hours of coals which still count as burn time because they still throw heat. Its impossible to go 24 hours on one load of wood. You have to reload the stove when you go to bed. The again when you wake up in the morning.

ahhhh...so it will only burn for 6-8 hours on a full load.

Also depends to a very great deal on what fuel you have available to you. Some of us woodburners have no access to the nice hardwoods of those farther to the east. It's tougher for us to get long burn times, simply because the fuel available to us burns more quickly. Rick

A full load of wood will increase the possibility/ability of a "over fire", but it does not cause it ... use the air regulator to hold the fire burn to a low level, this too is how you get long burn times, albeit with less heat output compared to burning at a higher intensity and feeding more often.
