I have a Maytag (read Fedders) dehumidifier and the compressor wouldn't come on. I've isolated the offending part: the thermal protector. Unfortunately they don't make it any more and I can't seem to find one on line for love or money.
The number on the part is B170-150-241C and the discontinued part number is FD 3205-030.
I can find other protectors out there but I know these are specific to the compressor. I can buy 1/8, 1/6 1/4 1/3 1/2 and 1 hp ones.
I can't see the data plate and don't know if there would be anything of use on it. This is a 30 pint dehumidifier draws 4.7 amps total.

I really don't want to spend $170 on a new one if all I need is a $6 part.

Any ideas?

These guys are in Preston, give them a shout. My lead electrician at work uses them for lots of stuff, especially for replacing ancient, obscure & out of production parts.

I guess it boils down to what size the compressor is. Any idea what is typical on a unit like this?
 
Is it worth bypassing the thermal protector and measuring the temp of the compressor to see if its overheating? You could check current draw also to see if its normal.
Some thermal protectors are the resetting type, others are single-use. I'm not sure which type is use on compressors. If the latter and your compressor is failing then you may be wasting your time on a new thermal protector.
 
This is the resetting type, a bi-metallic disc that will break contact when it gets too hot. That's why I need to find the right size. Too low and it will shut off too often, too high and the motor will burn up.
