Hi, In the past, I've used a flat wire brush to clean my clay flue liner as it always did a real good job. I now have a rigid ss liner and am wondering if the flat wire brush will be too abrasive on the new liner because I would like to use the flat wire brush on the black steel pipe also.

Thanks, Jim

Most people use stiff poly brushes with stainless rigid and flex liners. Myself included, though I have used wire brushes and they did fine. Dragging stiff brushes down liners that only contain soot with no scrubbing needed to remove flaked creosote hasn't been making a lot of sense to me from a wear and tear on the liner perspective. I have ordered a six inch "prefab chimney" brush that has softer bristles and is made for prefab fireplace chimneys. It will be here tomorrow and I will report results on how it does brushing out soot.
